For the millions of Kiwis who live and breathe gaming, a dream job just went live. The New Zealand Esports Federation (NZ Esports), in partnership with Trade Me Jobs, has launched a nationwide search for a Chief Gaming Officer.
The one-of-a-kind role will place the successful applicant right at the centre of the national esports team, the E Blacks. The job is simple but crucial: playtest and analyse the biggest competitive games being considered for the team’s upcoming season. Your insights will help decide which titles our top athletes take to the world stage.
This search is part of Trade Me’s “coolest jobs” campaign and taps into a massive part of Kiwi life, with figures showing 79% of New Zealanders play video games. The campaign aims to show that a meaningful career can come from anywhere, including a passion for gaming.
“Honestly, who hasn’t dreamed of getting paid to play video games? That’s exactly what this role is,” says Jonathan Jansen, CEO of NZ Esports. “We need someone to be our official expert on fun, to push games to their limits and help guide the us on which games we should focus on finding E Blacks for next. It’s a serious role, but let’s be honest, it’s also the most fun job you could imagine.”
The initiative reflects the huge growth of esports, which is fast becoming a major fixture in the national sporting landscape. The Chief Gaming Officer role is designed for someone ready to make the jump from enthusiast to professional, providing critical support to the E Blacks as they prepare to take on the world.
